| You Can Do It! |
|
At Brighton Beach we are committed to improving the wellbeing and engagement of students in their learning through the building of self-efficacy skills and personal resilience for productive collaboration.
The You Can Do It program is a school-home collaborative approach for developing the social and emotional capabilities of all students, from Prep to Year 6.
Five core social and emotional skills are taught explicitly:
Organisation The ability to set goals and manage time effectively. Being responsible for personal items and belongings in the classroom and playground. Persistence The ability to remain focused on a task until it is completed even if it may be difficult. Working hard to achieve results. Getting Along The ability to mix well with others. To be tolerant and non-judgmental and to be able to think through problems independently. The ability to work within the accepted rules of the school and the classroom. Confidence The ability to believe in yourself. To work independently and have an optimistic outlook; to recognise making mistakes as part of authentic learning. Resilience The ability to calm down and feel better when very upset. Knowing how to calm down and understanding how to control our anger or stop ourselves from feeling worried or down when something "bad" happens.
Each term a focus is placed on one of these key competencies and embedded within our classroom, specialist and enrichment programs. Our central purpose is to ensure that all students at Brighton Beach learn to connect these skills to their life beyond school; developing positive habits of mind that will sustain them throughout their life. |
