Performing Arts

Every student at Brighton Beach Primary School participates in a Performing Arts class each week.   Students in the Junior School have 40 minute lessons and students in Years 3  to 6 attend for an hour.

The emphasis of these sessions is building student self esteem and confidence through participation in both group and individual activities in Drama, Dance and Music.

In music, students participate in group singing, develop basic skills in composing and playing music, build listening skills and their ability to perform as part of a group. They also experience music from a wide variety of other cultures and periods and develop an appreciation of a broad range of musical styles and techniques.

All students also participate in dance activities. Students in all grades have the opportunity to experiment with movement, create their own dances and to participate in dance performances to a wider audience They also learn simple folk dances and some well known social dance styles.

Drama is approached largely through games and improvisational activities. The focus is on developing basic skills and confidence in movement, mime and effective vocal techniques. Students are also given opportunities to work with scripted plays and to perform to a wider audience.

School Instrumental Program

There are many opportunities at Brighton Beach Primary School for students to extend their skills in the Performing Arts beyond the classroom.

Private music lessons of 30-minute duration are available each week during school hours. Instruction is available for the flute, clarinet and saxophone, trumpet and trombone as well as percussion. Many of these students participate in the School Concert Band that rehearses one morning each week.  Instruction in violin, guitar and keyboard instruments is also available.

In addition we have our very own student rock band, the Brighton Beach Rockers, a percussion band lead by internationally renowned percussionist Mr. John Clark and a large and enthusiastic choir.

School Productions

Our school productions take place every second year. Every child in the school is involved in presentation of the musical with senior students taking on the more demanding speaking roles and children at all grade levels performing a number of song and dance routines.

In the alternate year there is a Senior school production that showcases the talents of students in our senior classes.
