District Swimming

The BBPS Swimming team competed at MSAC on Tuesday and were thrilled to return to school with the Overall Shield and the Aggregate Shield. This is the first time that BBPS has won both shields in a sport at a district level. The outstanding result was the result of a nail-biting team swim with Josh Farrell swimming the last leg of the relay to secure the win and the aggregate points. Many thanks to Josh Ancrum and Kirsten Braun for coordinating and supporting the team. Thank you also to Edwina Rice and Penny Fitzgerald who also assisted at the meet.

Photographers Returning

Thursday 22nd March @ 9.00am to take the “Student Leadership Group” (including SRC members) photos that were not taken on photo day,

Mathematics – Michael Ymer

Michael Ymer has been working consistently with the teachers and in classes at BBPS since 2017. He is building the teachers’ knowledge of the Victorian Curriculum and planning Mathematics tasks linked to real life learning.  Much positive feedback has been shared by parents who attended the session with Michael, on supporting Mathematics learning at home.

The takeaways included:

  • A good mathematician is able to apply their understanding of concepts to daily life situations

  • Skills development and fluency need to be embedded in real life contexts

  • Learners need to be able to articulate their thinking when applying mathematics to problem solving

  • There are always multiple ways to solving mathematical tasks – the skill is in the explanation

At home please consider links that can be made through:

  • Dividing a zucchini slice to serve 12 people ( the process of building fractions from ½

  • Folding tea-towels ½ to ¼

  • Using the Commonwealth Games and track records with the stop watch on an iphone

  • Utilising the GPS in the car with your children keying in information and keeping track of time and distance

  • Shopping lists with volume amounts recorded eg. Butter – 500grams

  • Budgeting their own pocket money to meet personal weekly needs whilst saving for a special goal

Thank you to those parents who have already provided feedback for our school review. Your candid comments and recommendations are highly valued. The survey links are available through class blogs and also through this newsletter. This is an opportunity to have your say about the future direction of our school.
