Walkathon - Total Team Effort

With the sun shining and many parent helpers lining up for high-vis vests and the fruit station set up and ready to go the students had a sense of the preparation that goes into special events such as the walkathon. Dressing in all manner of sporting gear the enthusiasm was evident and as Taylor Sensei led the juniors and Megan Craig led the seniors the participants all made a flying start and soon began passing the numerous parent helpers strategically placed as safety marshals along the way. It was a pleasure to walk alongside the students and share in the banter, excited chatter and the individual messages of encouragement.

There were those who wanted to go fast and others who wanted to enjoy a walk and still more that did a bit of both. Many thanks to Deidre and Emma who coordinated a brilliant team of parent helpers and to the teachers who walked, talked and encouraged the participants. Congratulations to all the students for joining in the sporting spirit of the event and challenging themselves to achieve their personal best.

Students need to return money and forms by Friday 12th May. This will enable the announcing of the prizewinners at assembly on Monday 15th.

2018 Prep Information Night

On Thursday 11th of May, all prospective 2018 Prep Parents are invited to our information night commencing at 6.30pm in the Collaborative Learning Centre. This is an opportunity to understand the breadth of the programs on offer at BBPS.  We look forward to these information-sharing opportunities as part of our Prep Transition Program. These sessions are designed to support a smooth transition from the kindergarten setting into school.

Out of Hours Use of School Grounds and Facilities

A number of providers hire our school facilities and grounds after hours during the week and on weekends. The maintenance cost for the artificial turf is supplemented by the hire charges. The school is not open to the public for use and there are numerous signs re Trespassing. The buildings are also alarmed and security is vigilant. With the location of the Whyte Street Park so close this provides access to public playground and recreational space.  The high fences and locked gates ensure our facilities remain in very good condition and users can be managed by the school for the best possible outcomes for our students and community.

Bully Stoppers

On Wednesday, our Grade 5 Bully Stoppers team welcomed students from Beaumaris, Hampton, Sandringham, and Sandringham East Primary Schools for the launch of this year’s Bully Stoppers Community Project.

Students listened to FLYBZ (aka) Fablice Manirakiza who delivered a powerful workshop, sharing his personal story of resilience: born and raised in a third world country "Burundi", becoming an orphan at the age of 8, child soldier at the age of 11 and then living in a refugee camp before finally migrating to Australia. Fablice then showed the students how we use music to deliver a message. Some of our student team commented:

“I found his personal story so interesting and was amazed by his rapping skills,” – Fox

“I was amazed by some of the horrible things that Fablice went through when he was young,”

“Fablice was really good because he showed us how he used our 5Rs in his own life,” - Spencer

The challenge project for this year’s team is to create a musical performance that delivers a message about resilience.

Students spent the afternoon brainstorming and sharing ideas for this project.

Thanks to Emma Baldwin for facilitating the day.
