Enrolment for 2018

Please make sure if you have a preppie starting next year we have your enrolment forms. If not please contact the office.

If your child is not returning to Brighton Beach Primary School in 2018 can you please let Benita know via email at brighton.beach.ps@edumail.vic.gov.au with “2018 Student not returning” in the subject line, as we are beginning our workforce planning for next year.

Family Life

Next week, family life sessions have been organised for Wednesday, 2nd August, Years 1&2 5:45-6:45pm, Years 3&4: 7-8pm and Years 5&6: 8:15-9:15pm,

Please see our newsletter for details, and remember that places need to be booked prior to the event.  These sessions are back by popular demand thanks to the P.A. for organising these vital sessions.

Curriculum Day

Please be mindful that there will be no school for students on Friday August 11th. On this day teachers will be involved in professional learning, with teams visiting four schools to observe practices in: Reading; ICT; Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM); and Student to Teacher Feedback.

Each DET school is entitled to 4 days a year. At the beginning of Term 1 we use three of our days to prepare for the students arrival back to school. This is our final curriculum day for the 2017 school year as approved by School Council. To support families who are working we have asked Camp Australia to offer a program for students on the curriculum day.  Unfortunately we can only run the program if we get at least 18 children attending so we are calling for expressions of interest. So please if you are interested complete the form located near the office.  Further information can be found in this newsletter on how to register.

Michael Ymer

Teachers and students have enjoyed having maths consultant, Michael Ymer in our classrooms again this week. He will return next week and will be conducting a parent session on Thursday 3rd August at 6pm. All parents welcome.

Parent Survey Feedback

Thanks to those families who provided feedback about our parent information sessions. Preferences for times to attend sessions remained varied, including 9am, 2:30pm and after 7pm so we will continue to endeavour to offer a variety of times throughout the term.  Key ideas for future information sessions included developing friendships, more from the Resilience Project, applying the curriculum to home life, helping at home with maths and reading. The information provided in this survey will be used to inform our future planning.

Sporting Success
Congratulations must go to the Tee-ball team who competed in the Interschool sport finals in the Bayside District last Friday. The team put up a stellar effort against Our Lady of Assumption, with a final score of 3-22. Well done to all of the team and Miss Gadea, with special mentions to Gus for his home run on the day, Ben D for his great captaincy and Jake for his mentoring.

Our AFL team have now competed in both the second and third round of finals competition for Interschool sports. After their two games last week, including a win against Mentone Grammar as part of the Cheltenham District on Friday, the team played in the Kingston division competition on Tuesday and narrowly missed out in the Grand Final by 1 point. Fantastic effort!

Minato-Ku

Welcome and thank you to our Minato-Ku visitors, who have spent the week with us at BBPS sharing their own learning experiences and engaging in life in Australia with our community. Over the course of the week, the various cultural events and the shared time in classes enabled all students to discover the similarities between cultures and the features that make each culture unique. The Cultural Day was a wonderful celebration, and Year 6 students are to be congratulated on facilitating a number of activities. Many thanks must go to Taylor Sensei for another well-organised week, and to our host families for generously welcoming our international students into your homes. Parents are invited to the special assembly tomorrow, Friday at 2.40 in the school hall.

Cupcake and Fruit Friday

The Year 6 students been innovative for their traditional student led fund raising for their graduation.  Instead of icy poles which they sell in the warmer months, they will be setting up a stall on Fridays just before lunch and selling cupcakes and/or fruit for a gold coin donation. All students are welcome, and first in will be best dressed as we cannot promise we will have enough for the whole school each Friday.

Thanks from the Year 6 students.

Congratulations

Our heartfelt congratulations to Kim and Josh Ancrum who have just announced their delightful news of expecting their first child in December.
