Welcome Back and Renovations Begin!

Welcome back to 2016! We have had a sensational start to the year with students arriving back refreshed and keen to start the new school year. The year has begun smoothly even though Stage 1 of the renovation has begun. Currently the new staffroom is being created with work on the new learning area, where the old staffroom was, beginning in the next couple of weeks. A huge thank you to everyone for all those donations, voluntary contributions and continual support of fundraising events we certainly wouldn’t be able to begin this first stage of our renovation if this was not a combined effort. Thank you also to our PA for their tireless efforts ensuring our fundraising events are well organised and well attended. This year is a new year for the PA and they have a meeting tomorrow morning at 9am in the school library if you would like to attend.

The staff have been working hard to ensure transition back to school life for families has been smooth. We welcome our three new staff members to BBPS Ms Vanessa Gadea (Year 6), Ms Kelly Stevens (Visual Arts) and Ms Kirsty Walker (Year 2).

Unfortunately for some of the schools in Victoria the beginning of their year has not been as smooth as ours. I am referring to the recent hoax threatening phone calls to schools that have been received in the last few days. Our school has not received such a call but I wanted to inform you that, like all schools, we have an emergency management plan in place for situations like this, and we practise it throughout the year. Those schools which did receive a threatening call enacted their emergency management plans and they worked well.  The safety and wellbeing of our students is always our top priority.

If you have any questions, please contact me.

Welcome Evening

We have so many new families who have arrived at our school. These include our Prep families, being some of the newest additions, along with the families who have arrived at our school during the holidays.  On behalf of the community we would like to welcome our new families and invite everyone to our Community Welcome Evening, Friday 19th February starting at 5.30 concluding at 7.30pm. The Welcome Evening is an opportunity for us to welcome our new members to the community and connect with some familiar friends. We look forward to seeing both new and old faces at the event.

Student Insurance

As outlined by Department Education Early Childhood Development parents and guardians are responsible for paying the cost of medical treatment for injured students, including any transport costs. If you wish for your child to be insured for accidents at school, student accident insurance policies are available from some commercial insurers.

Student Safety

We are happy to be back at school and some children are so happy to be here they are arriving before 8.45am or staying after 3.45pm. There is supervision at school from 8.45am to 3.45pm. Parents are responsible for the safety of their child outside of these supervised times. So please ensure your child arrives at school no earlier than 8.45am and is picked up by 3.45pm. If you are unable to supervise your child, you need to arrange care for them. Camp Australia provide before and after school care and can be contacted on 1300 105 343. If children cannot be supervised during these times and are unsupervised at school they will need to attend the Camp Australia program, and costs will be involved.

BBPS Broadcasts on Southern FM

It was an absolute delight to listen to our Media Captains Grace Kirkham and Scarlett Glyndwr, with support of our budding radio host Mr Aaron Steel on the community radio. Their session was from 8-9am and included interviews from some of our students and new staff. This is an authentic learning opportunity for these students and a great opportunity to showcase what is going on at BBPS. These sessions will be available soon on our website.
