This week at BBPS

A busy week at BBPS with a number of exciting ventures outside the classroom norm. Highlights include:

Interschool sport finals: Well done to the tee-ball team and Miss Craig, who competed in district finals on Friday. Congratulations to the football team and Mr Ancrum, who made a valiant effort at the division finals on Tuesday, resulting in a runner’s up place, after winning the district finals on Friday. We wish our netball team and Miss Chisholm all the best in their division finals, taking place next Monday 30th July. Thank you to all the parents who supported the students in these events

  • Culture is Life: Year 3-6 participated in a cultural awareness session with Marble, who shared personal stories with the students about his indigenous heritage through storytelling and dance.

  • 16 Hands: Prep, Year 5-6 had the opportunity to hear about and have a close-up with Bear, a visiting thoroughbred horse.

  • Staff development: a number of staff participated in range of sessions this week, including 21st Century Learning Design – how to build self-regulated learners; Digicon – an annual conference on digital technologies in the classroom; and Respectful Relationships – a department curriculum that teaches children how to build healthy relationships, resilience and confidence. The 5/6 team worked with our network social worker, Kerry Staun.

    Family Life

Life sessions have been organised for Wednesday, 1st August, Years 3&4: Where Do I Come From, 6:00-7:00pm and Years 5&6: Preparing for Puberty 7:15-8:15pm.

Pease see our newsletter for details, and remember that places need to be booked prior to the event.  These sessions are back by popular demand thanks to the P.A. for organising these vital sessions.

  • Enrolment for 2019

Please make sure that if you have a preppie starting in 2019 that we have your enrolment forms. If not please contact the office.

If your child is not returning to Brighton Beach Primary School in 2019 can you please let Benita know via email at brighton.beach.ps@edumail.vic.gov.au with “2019 Student not returning” in the subject line, as we are beginning our workforce planning for next year

  • Curriculum Day

Please be mindful that there will be no school for students on Friday August 10th. On this day teachers will be involved in professional learning, focusing on building 21st Century learning into lesson design in the area of STEAM and will be participating in a session about integrating cultural and indigenous awareness into our school curriculum.
  • Each DET school is entitled to 4 days a year. At the beginning of Term 1 we use three of our days to prepare for the students arrival back to school. This is our final curriculum day for the 2018 school year, as approved by School Council. To support families who are working we have asked Camp Australia to offer a program for students on the curriculum day.  Unfortunately we can only run the program if we get at least 18 children attending so we are calling for expressions of interest. So please if you are interested complete the form located near the office.  Further information can be found in this newsletter on how to register.

  • Parent Opinion Survey

  • Thank you to those families who have received and completed the Department’s annual parent opinion survey. The survey is generated to a random selection of parents. If you have received one, please take 10-15 minutes as we value your feedback. Completed surveys are anonymous and need to be done by Sunday, August 26th.
