Asylum Seeker Resource Centre in Footscray

On Monday 20th August, year 6 went to the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre in Footscray to see their work because they are our chosen charity for Market Day on September 12th.

It was a very moving and rewarding experience to understand the terrible difficulties asylum seekers endure. The asylum seekers are fleeing war-torn countries, poverty and famine and trying to make a better life in Australia. The centre offers a safe haven and place to help asylum seekers.

We were shown around by volunteers who told us about all the struggles of the asylum seekers and about the people who help at the ASRC. Some are from law school helping out with applications, some are dealing with donations, some are cooking and some offer English classes.

We are very privileged at BBPS and imagining being an asylum seeker left a big impact on us and a determination to do our best at Market Day and raise as much money as we can for the ASRC.

Please support us in every way you can for this incredibly important cause.

The day in total (including the after event) was a huge success. The introduction of ‘The Brighton Community Cup’ has created a shared celebration of community involving the two local primary schools.

Players acknowledged the benefits of playing on a great oval, the introduction of the modified rules and the use of qualified AFL umpires as very welcome additions.

For spectators, the game flowed and really highlighted the combined skills with some very good passages of play and many strong marks. It was a wonderful outcome with Brighton Beach Primary School taking out the Cup by 34 points. Thank you to Graham ‘Grazer’ Davis for his coaching expertise which no doubt contributed to the fabulous result.

Many thanks to Ben Robb who has taken this annual match between two schools to a whole new level. Not only did Ben organise this event, but on the day switched hats from organiser to player. Our community is very grateful for all his efforts and also acknowledge the support team Ben has had assisting him.

Go Dreamers!!!

Naplan Results 2018 from DET

Victorian students achieved the state’s best NAPLAN results ever in both reading and numeracy in primary schools. The figures show that Victorian primary students continue to be among the best in the country – and are getting better.

If we exclude the ACT, Victoria was the lead jurisdiction on eight out of the 10 NAPLAN measures for primary students.

As a community, please join me in celebrating their success, and the hard work of our teachers and staff who are dedicated to their learning. Well done everyone!

Prep Readiness Evening

On Wednesday 5th September we will be holding a Prep Readiness/Orientation evening in our school at 6:30pm. The session will be run by Education Consultant David Anderson who has a long history of working with our school community. We invite all our prospective parents to attend what will be a highly informative night.

Father’s Day Breakfast

On Wednesday morning our hall was a hype of activity as we celebrated the Dads of our school with a special Father’s Day Breakfast. With make your own Bunnings Pots, delicious breakfast food accompanied by hot chocolate and coffee the morning was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended. A big thank you must go to our Parent Association and in particular Kate Hart-Smit h and Alice Wagstaff for organising the breakfast along with their team of helpers. We would also like to thank Carolyn Atwill for organising the Father’s Day Stall and all who assisted her. We wish all Dads a Happy Father’s Day on Sunday.
