Term 3 Week 4

8 Aug 2019

Jeans for Genes Day

Congratulations to our community for raising a total of $398.60 for this worthwhile cause, which took place on Friday, August 2nd. Special thank you to the SRC for coordinating this event. We were spoilt with a special performance at Monday’s assembly by Prep, who sang ‘Jeans On’, David Dundas in celebration of this fundraiser event.

Earn and Learn

A big thank you to all of our community for your diligent commitment to collecting Woolworths Earn and Learn stickers last term. As a result, we collected over 34 000 points which have been used to buy a plethora of class resources. These resources will support the development of our STEAM program, and explore the areas of physics, engineering, construction and animation. Items purchased include construction sets, LEGO scenery, marble runs and circuit kits. Much thanks must go to Jenny (Demi, Year 4 and Billie, Prep) for facilitating sticker collection and to Chris (Will, Year 4 and Henry, Year 1) and Year 1 students for helping to count ALL the collected stickers.

Dreamers Jumper Presentation

This year’s Dreamers AFL team was named on Friday night. Our team is gearing up with great excitement for the big match with Brighton Primary School for our Annual Community Cup. Join them, along with the BPS Lions, for the jumper presentation on Sunday, 18th August at 4:00pm. Cost is $7 entry fee (including a raffle ticket, 2 slices of pizza per child, an all ages family magic show by Felix the Magician!). Tickets can be booked at

Be sure to keep August 24th free to watch our team (which includes a number of our teachers!) in action.

Year 4 Kinder visits

4D and 4G visited St Peter’s kindergarten this week as part of our Prep 2020 transition program. Year 4s shared a book they had chosen from the library and had the opportunity to play in the kindergarten setting. 4OP will visit St Mary’s kindergarten towards the end of this term.

Felix “It was nostalgic to see what it is like at kinder, as a 4 year old about to start Prep”

Matt “I enjoyed being with my buddy, we got to read and share ideas”

Leni “It was great reading books and colouring in because she liked the book I chose”

5RRRs Award

Congratulations to Lucy (Prep T) and Oakley (5C), recipients of this week’s award for showing the 5Rs.

Learning highlights from the middle school (Year 3 and 4) – stay tuned next week for an update from our senior school.

Year 3

Iona “We are learning about pollution and how we can stop it, like using metal straws instead of plastic”

Peter “I’m loving doing coding in Maths because it’s so much fun”

Elliot “I like doing multiplication and division because I really enjoy it”

Liam “Japanese is fun because you learn something brand new”

Year 4

Gab “In Poetry we are learning about different types of poems from different countries”

Matilda “I like working on multiplication and division because I can figure out the sums quicker by thinking about the opposite facts”

Parent Information Sessions

Thanks to our families who have attended the parent sessions offered within our school this term.

Year 5/6 Information night was well attended by Year 3/4 families. Many thanks to Naomi Beales and our volunteer Year 6 leaders, Jonty , Sophia , Isabella , and Connor who spoke on the night. Special thanks to Janet and Cathy for sharing their experiences as parents within our community.

The Year 5/6 Girls Body Image session focused on key strategies parents can adopt as part of the body positive parenting approach. Susan Wallace and Julia Tartaro (DET psychologists) talked about reducing bad body talk in the home, appreciating bodies for their function rather than appearance, and using positive body terms such as “Exercise for fun, not beauty” and “All bodies are good bodies”.

There are still a couple of sessions being offered this term – both with a focus on parenting, so please put the dates in your diary.
