At BBPS we believe that student voice is the structure needed to provide authentic leadership opportunities.
To support this belief there are leadership opportunities available in each class as part of regular routines. Monitors assist with various classroom tasks. Class experts are identified in various aspects of learning and opportunities are shared. Every child has the experience of leading, at some time, during the year. This is important to build self-esteem.

Classes from Year 2-6 elect representatives of the Student Representative Council. The Prep and Year 1 students have Year 6 leaders who share their opinions at meetings. The SRC meet regularly to identify school improvement areas and to decide on charities to support.

The Prep and Year 5 buddy program provides another important opportunity for modelling and leadership and is eagerly anticipated by the older students.

We have official leadership opportunities for Year 6 students. Through expression of interest, students indicate their wish to be considered for the positions of School Captains, House Captains and captains of specific school activities. Role statements have been developed for these positions. Sport captains candidates deliver speeches in support of their nominations whilst other leadership roles are timetabled for an individual interview with the current school captains, the principal and a teacher. Announcements and congratulations occur at a school assembly. We do rely on our Year 6 students to lead a variety of responsibilities and on occasions our Year 5 students also assist in undertaking these duties.
