BBPS Life - Spooky Edition

Our Teletubbies
Our Teletubbies

Message from Bev and Kim - Our Principals

Classrooms are such lively hubs of learning, well done to all our students for your focus and attention as you get into core components of our learning program this term. Check out BBPS Life for details on what each year level is currently focussed on.

Congratulations to our Spelling Bee finalists. Well done to all those who competed, and thank you to our Academic Captains, who are now busily planning the Term 4 Maths Olympiad.

Winners: Louis (Prep); Oliver (Gr 1); Bea (Gr 2); Yindi (gr 3); Dimitri (Gr 4); Jake (Gr 5); Axel (gr 6).

Teachers have begun their end of year assessment processes, and have been particularly pleased with cohort results in the areas of spelling and reading. We look forward to sharing your child’s academic successes with you through parent teacher interviews in the next fortnight – please sign up using Compass Conferences.

Recent assessment has further supported our successful NAPLAN results for 2025. Based on this year’s results, BBPS has maintained an overall rating as a high performing school.

While we know this test is one day, one time, we are proud to note that the % of students needing additional support, in both grade 3 and 5, ranges only from 0-4%. This attests to the outstanding intervention support our teachers provide within the classroom and cohort team.

Our growth data, particularly in reading, between grade 3 and 5, also measures in the high range.

Congrats again to our Dreamers Netball team, back to back winners against Brighton PS. A huge thank you to the organising team, especially Mel Biggin and Liz Butcher for continuing to drive such a wonderful initiative. Check out our PA section of the newsletter for more.

What can we say about the Halloween Disco? An absolutely fantastic event, so well organised (thank you Grade 2 and Grade 5 PA!), the kids had an absolute ball and student behaviour was outstanding. Such a wonderful tradition for our kids at BBPS – this is an event very unique to our school, so it is with huge gratitude that we appreciate how lucky we are. Photos galore in BBPS Life.

Christmas Party is soon approaching. Thanks to all those families who are busy collecting, donating, and signing up to give time to support this event.

For more on our Dunk Tank, check out the PA section of our newsletter.

And stay tuned as we start to the campaign to be rid of Mr Ancrum’s beard, in the spirit of school fundraising.

Well done to our successful division athletes, Lucy and Vivi, both progressing to state finals for Athletics. Both girls did amazingly well and will now be representing BBPS at the school state athletics championships next week.  Their results:

Vivi

1500m - 1st

800m - 2nd

Lucy

200m - 2nd

100m - 4th

We are delighted to again be welcoming eight visiting teachers-in-training from Nakamura Gakuen University, Japan in term 1, 2026.  BBPS will again host these students, from 25th February to 1st March (4 nights) and we are currently seeking expressions of interest for families interested in hosting these students. This is a wonderful opportunity to share Australian culture and hospitality while learning more about Japanese education and language. If your family would like to be involved, please let the Admin Office know (including how many students you would be able to host).

Finally, a big shout out to our amazing teachers as we celebrate World Teachers’ Day this week! Thank you for the care, creativity, and commitment you bring to every classroom. And a warm thank you to our Parents Association for organising a special event to mark the occasion.

We were in a podcast! – check us out, working with the Free Agency team who brought our community coffees this week (hope you all enjoyed this random act of kindness!) - We love the chance to talk about our community, and it was an honour to be asked. Stay tuned for future podcast episodes from the BBPS team.

Exciting news – Congratulations to Itai Gororo, who welcomed a beautiful baby boy, Nas (pronounced Nars) Croker. Born Oct 22 at 11:06pm. Everyone doing well.

We love a new BBPS Baby!

Junior School Choir

The junior School Choir (Grades 1 and 2) is learning a new repertoire after a successful debut at the art show.

Now in practice sessions for performance at local nursing home, the choir is preparing for the festive season with Christmas songs and well-loved carols, ably led by Mrs May on the piano.

Henry and Olivia "We are going to a nursing home and we are going to sing to lots of old people. We will sing Christmas carols. We are learning Mary's Boy Child, Little Donkey, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, Santa Clause if Coming to Town and 20 Aussie Jingle Bells. We are excited because we think it will be really fun. We are excited to see if there will be any new songs. This is the first time grade 1 has gone to visit a nursing home to sing."

Don't forget, Monday 3rd November is a student free day.

Students return after Melbourne Cup, Wednesday 5th November.
