How to be an Astronaut - A special visitor- Dr John Porter (Marty's Dad)

It was good to have Dad come in to talk to the grade 1 and 2 students. He talked about space. He applied to be an astronaut twice and he did lots of the trials to get in. My Dad knows a lot about space and sometimes we watch space videos together with Mum. I was proud of Dad coming in to talk to everyone.

It was exciting because Dr John talked a lot about space, but not just random things. He answered questions. The probe that travelled the farthest has gone out of the solar system. The farthest distance that people have travelled in space is to the moon. 

Year 6 Community Projects

Our Year 6 students have begun their Community Project, exploring how everyday people can have a voice and create positive change in their community. Students are identifying issues that matter to them and investigating how decisions are made and who has the power to create change. They will explore how a community concern can gain support, reach government representatives or other community action groups, and potentially progress through the political system to the point where new laws or changes to existing laws can be considered in Parliament. 

This learning will then come to life during our upcoming Canberra trip, where students will see firsthand how Australia’s political and democratic processes operate. By connecting their own community projects with what they experience in Canberra, students will develop a deeper understanding of how community voice can grow into action and potentially influence change at the highest levels of government.

 Building Works Update

The Asset Management Plan (AMP) Phase 1 stage has been endorsed and we are now commencing the AMP Phase 2. This is the planning phase of the capital works announcement.   

The  architect engagement process and the establishment of the Project Control Group has commenced. This stage also determines the project scope based on: the improvement areas identified; the school's condition report; area allocation and the project budget. 

We will be working closely with the VSBA Project Delivery Officer and the architect to identify the opportunities and challenges in modernising and restoring the heritage building and the Multipurpose Hall and adjacent spaces, exploring innovative solutions to unify student movement  across the campus including the provision for modern indoor outdoor learning spaces. Flexible spaces and community use are key elements to be considered in the design process.
