Maths Speedsters!
The Academic Captains are also involved in action projects supporting our junior students practise their 'Friends of Ten' with a speed mental maths competition. See our eight house finalists from Prep. Congratulations to Charlie and Ceddie from Wilson, Caspar and Emilia from Grainger, Tennyson and Korie from Gordon and Zane and Mahlia from Dendy. Stay tuned for the 'mental maths' play offs and for the announcement of the champion house.
Thanks to Maddy, Esme and Seb: 'We are the Academic Captains and recently we did a Friends of Ten competition for the Preps. We sorted them into two lines and finished with 8 very well deserving winners.'
Inspired Student leaders lead with genuine compassion. After an address at Assmembly from Oz Child, the BBPS community went into action. The response from Raffy and Taj - our SRC/Respectful Relationships Captains was immediate.
"Mrs May we will run a bring a gold coin pyjama day, can you help us find a suitable day for this to happen?"
This was the only input from me, the boys did the rest.

Needless to say the donation tin at the office is full, and will be collected by a very grateful Bec from Oz Child on Monday. Our kids love a day to dress up and they love the history of our school originally being the Melbourne Orphanage School. So the quest to help the 'The First 175 Hours' the story of how care begins (Foster care) was a no brainer. This authentic action to find a way to help others underpins our efforts to build the acts of kindness and compassion and how we can give joy by thinking of others and striving to make their day.
The Big Freeze 2026 and the thirteen years of Neil Daniher's efforts have left enduring understandings. 'You can't control the circumstances, but you can control your response. If you don't like something, change it, and if you can't change it, then change the way you are thinking about it!'

Listening to Readers
It is always a pleasure to hear children read. To hear their approximations as they sound out words, self correct for meaning, and go back and re-read for fluency and phrasing. To hear their personal connections to the meaning of the text. Louis was very definite about wanting to be a farmer as his choice of profession when he grows up.
