Our Outstanding Performance

What a performance! ‘Let the Games Begin’ was a huge success and a great way for the BBPS community to come together. Thank you again to Sally Wickes and the team for the high level of coordination involved, from script writing to costume organisation to the running of the whole show. Thanks to all those lovely families who have sent in their gratitude – we do it for our kids, but its always nice to hear your appreciate for what we do.

We trust that everyone had a restful curriculum day on Friday. Teachers gathered to reflect on school culture and the model of ‘Support and Challenge’. We unpacked what this means when working in a highly effective team, and took a closer look at building positive mindsets in our students – what it looks like at BBPS to encourage and discourage expected behaviours, practice gratitude and mindfulness. We then further explored support and challenge with a learning lens and looked at evidence based practice linked to our curriculum, with considerations for how we provide effective in-class intervention, plan for extension in learning and celebrate academic achievement.

We welcome Wendy Pierce who has joined our BBPS teaching staff. She is in Year 1, taking over Daphne’s class.

Congratulations to our Preppies, who last week celebrated 100 days of school – a huge achievement in their first year of school – it was wonderful to see their learning growth showcased as part of our Three Way Conferences earlier this term.

Next week is Bully No Way week. Students will be engaging in a range of classroom activities to build an understanding of the varied nature of bullying and how we can be kind to each other. Our Grade 5 upstanders, with the support of our SRC captains, will be running a Friendship Lunch on Friday, 16th August. Students are invited to wear a touch of orange in support of their learning.

Father's Day – this year, Father’s and Special friends will be celebrated within our classrooms, in a similar fashion to our Mother’s Day celebrations in term 2. In an attempt to set up a varied sequence of events P-6, if you were invited into the classrooms for term 2 – dads, grandpas, uncles and special friends of those year levels are again invited this term. Dates for your calendars:

Prep, Grade 1, Grade 2:  Monday Sept 3 8:45-9:15pm

Grade 3/4/5 a special something will be coming home

Grade 6 all family members are invited to a special celebration, an opportunity to connect. This will take place outside of the Father’s Day celebration window, Wednesday 18th September, 3-3:45pm.

Our Photographing, Filming and Recording Policy has been updated based on recent Department amendments. As a result, all families will need to again consent to their child’s image being used in a range of ways, as detailed in the policy. You will only need to complete the Compass Event once in the time your child attends our school. The Compass Event will go live Monday.

Students leaving the school: If your child/children are not returning to BBPS in 2025, please email the school at brighton.beach.ps@education.vic.gov.au. Please note that we require the notification in writing, not just by letting your class teacher know. Thank you for this information.

The annual Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Surveywas emailed out to our families Monday 29th July from ORIMA.  The survey, offered by the Department of Education, is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement.  Your opinions are important to us and will contribute to identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies. The department will use the results from the survey for research purposes and to improve outcomes for students. The survey is conducted anonymously, and it is important to our school that you complete the survey as honestly as possible. Currently, only 14% of families have completed the survey - We would appreciate it if you could take some time to complete this form by Friday 30th August 2024.
