Snowing in November at BBPS

BBPS Choir

Well done to the BBPS Choir, who performed at the Brighton Yacht Club on Sunday 13 November for the OzChild orphanage reunion.

BBPS has a long history, originating as the orphanage school in 1851. This reunion marked the 170th year of Ozchild, which was celebrated with a reunion lunch at Royal Brighton Yacht Club. This was planned for 2021 and finally was able to take place.

We received the following email from the Fundraising & Communications Coordinator at OzChild.

"Hi Sally,

It was nice to meet you in person at the Melbourne Orphanage Reunion on Sunday.

Thank you so much for attending and for organising the choir performance.

The guests enjoyed it very much; we even received feedback from a few guests saying, and quote, “The children from our old school were a delight and sang beautifully. The school should be proud of their music teachers.”

Please pass on our thanks and congratulations to the children. It was an absolute delight to have them perform at the event, and I hope they enjoyed performing too.

Thank you once again for joining us, and please stay in touch.

I hope to see you again for the next year’s reunion event. 😊

Kind regards

Reshani"

Prep 2023 Transition began this week – many thanks to our Prep team for facilitating this. On Wednesday the transition commenced with the first of three sessions. It was delightful to welcome the 2023 prep children and their families on site.

Grade 1-5 will begin 2023 student transition in week 10 (we are currently in week 8) with opportunities to ask questions, meet with students in the above grades, and learn more about what next will look like.

Student Stationery 2023

Don’t forget to purchase your stationary packs before December 10th, 2022 to avoid a surcharge fee. See details in this week's newsletter for how to purchase.

2023 Workforce

As the busiest time of year for schools, one of the many administrative jobs taking place behind the scenes is the confirmation of staffing for 2023. At the end of this year we farewell:

  • Maddi Rolfe and wish her every success in her new role as mum.

  • Tasleem Sahib, who has accepted a teaching position closer to home at Heidelberg Primary School.

  • Paloma Ellis-Vega, who embarks on an adventure into Europe with her husband Joe to pursue their passions in music and teaching.

  • Ruth Pascoe, our outstanding Education Support team member, will be on leave for semester 1, 2023.

  • Ryan Bolger will continue to be on leave for 2023.

With the opportunity to honour and farewell some outstanding staff members, we also look forward to welcoming some new members to our team:

  • Anna Remfry and Mark Coulston join us as experienced teachers.

  • Marnie Bignell continuing on with us in 2023 after being in 4B this term.

Parent Association

A big congratulations to our Parent Association and Dreamers Football team, having raised over $20 000 for our school to date. Money raised so far has helped us to:

  • purchase playground markings through edumarking as previously shared. These are due to be installed early next year.

  • purchase outdoor furniture for our kitchen garden, pictures to come when items arrive this term.

Many thanks to those who have generously sponsored and donated to our Christmas Extravaganza, taking place December 2nd. Tickets can still be pre-purchased and will be available for collection ahead of the big event, keep an eye out for a Compass update.

Visible Learning

As you would be aware, over the past few years BBPS have been exploring ways to further connect the classroom learning to home so that families can receive ongoing feedback about a student’s learning. We have done this through weekly grade newsletters and visible learning tasks. We would love your feedback on these termly tasks, please take 2 minutes to complete our survey https://forms.gle/DGCXCMjZbycNut4aA

Production DVD

We have some very exciting news! Due to popular demand, the link to order the production DVD will be opened up again next week for a limited time. Keep an eye out early next week for the Compass post with more details.
